Among a hugely competitive field, your business shone through — how does that feel?!
It’s a brilliant feeling, especially when you look at the calibre of businesses across the Welsh food and drink scene. To be recognised among such strong competition is a real vote of confidence in what we’re building at Pembrokeshire Creamery. We’ve scaled quickly, but always with purpose and this award is a real reflection of the effort and commitment from the whole team.
What’s been the best reaction you’ve had since the win?
The best reactions have come from the people closest to the journey such as our team on the ground and the farmers we work with. It’s recognition of what we’ve all built together in a very short space of time. Seeing their pride and excitement has been a real highlight.
Who inspires you in the food and drink world — and why?
One person who really stands out is Brian Jones, founder of Castell Howell Foods. Starting from his farm and growing Wales’s leading foodservice companies is a massive inspiration. He’s stayed rooted in his community whilst championing Welsh produce at every opportunity.
Got any words of wisdom for someone dreaming of launching a food or drink business?
Start with a clear problem to solve. If you know your purpose, it keeps you focused when the challenges come. And surround yourself with the right people a good team makes all the difference, especially in those early, intense months.
What drives you to create change or set new standards in the Welsh food and drink industry?
For us, it’s about making sure that Welsh products get the respect, value and visibility it deserves. Welsh milk was leaving the country to be processed elsewhere, losing value, increasing food miles and disconnecting consumers from the source. Hopefully over time we can help to create a system that makes sense for the Welsh food and drink industry.
What’s next for you and the business — any exciting plans on the horizon that you can share?
We’re just finishing Phase 2 of our site expansion, which will double our processing capacity. That means we can support more customers, more farmers, and create more jobs locally. We’re also growing our branded offering with Blas y Tir milk rolling out into more retailers and looking ahead to even more innovation in 2026.
Finally, what’s the best bit about being part of the Welsh food and drink scene?
The sense of community. There’s real pride in what we produce here in Wales, and a genuine willingness among businesses to support each other. We’re not just building a business we’re trying to contribute to a much bigger story about Welsh food, identity, and sustainability. Being part of that is incredibly rewarding.
